Zodiak Cina

Salam Sejahtera Semua!!
We learned the about the Chinese Zodiac. There are 12 animals represented in it. This cycle will rotate every year. This year is the year of the Dragon. (no wonder Dekalb isn't that cold this year~) So, in class we learned the 12 animals in the Chinese Zodiac. And interestingly, each animal represents a certain characteristic. So if you were born in the year of dragon, you are as fiery as the dragon!
Nama Haiwan/ Binatang Zodiak Cina. [ Animals: Haiwan/ Binatang E.g. Ada banyak haiwan di zoo. >>There are many animals at the zoo.]
Tikus- Rat
Lembu- Cow
Harimau- Tiger
Arnab- Rabbit
Naga- Dragon
Ular- Snake
Kuda- Horse
Kambing- Goat
Monyet- Monkey
Ayam- Chicken
Anjing- Dog
Babi- Pig
We also did the character analysis for a few famous people like Jackie Chan and Yuna (the Malaysian singer). Below are few example of sentences.
Jackie Chan lahir pada tahun kuda.
Jackie Chan was born on the year of horse.
Jackie Chan lari laju, macam kuda.
Jackie Chan runs fast, like a horse.
For the first sentence, which is 'Jackie Chan lahir pada tahun kuda', notice the word 'pada'. It this context, it means 'on', referring to the date or the year.However, it does not necessarily mean "on".
"Pada"---a preposition in Malay which is often used with time.
Examples of usage you might have encountered in our previous lessons:
1. Dia pergi ke kelas Bahasa Melayu pada pukul 3 petang setiap hari. {He goes to the Malay Class at 3p.m. every day.}
2. Mereka pergi ke Parti Merdeka di rumah Prof. Jim pada malam ini. { They are going to the Merdeka Party at Prof Jim's house tonight.}
3. NIU ada konsert muzik pada hari Rabu. {NIU has a music concert on Wednesday.}
4. Penyanyi popular Malaysia,Yuna dilahirkan pada tahun 1986. { The popular Malaysian singer, Yuna is born in1986.)
Notice that "pada" is used in front of time, days of the week, parts of the day and year. "Pada" can also mean "with". However, we will not go into that particular function. We will stick with "dengan" in order to avoid confusion.
