In earlier classes we learned about how to refer to parts of our bodies, and we also looked at medicine ads to match up those words with medicines and illnesses. We looked at photos and postcards, brochures and newspaper ads. We learned:

At the pharmacies in Malaysia, they sell medicines for all kinds of ailments.

sakit perut 'stomach ache diarrhoea'
penyakit jantung 'heart disease'
sakit otot 'sore muscle'
penyakit kulit 'skin disease'
sakit tangan 'pain in the arm or hand'

 
Kalau sakit kepala, nak beli ubat apa?
If you have a headache, what medicine will you buy?

Rambut saya gugur, ada ubat apa untuk itu?
My hair is falling out, what's the medicine for that?

Mereka minum banyak bir di Melaka, jadi sakit kepala.  Shannon minum air saja, tapi Mike makan ubat Excedrin.
They drank a lot of beer in Melaka, so they had head aches. Colleen just drank water, but Charles took Excedrin.

Pada musim sejuk, kulit saya kering. Saya pakai ubat intensive care untuk kulit saya.
In the cold season, my skin is dry. I use intensive care medicine for my skin

Kalau sakit jantung mereka makan oatmeal saja. Tapi saya makan ubat antikolesterol.
If they have heart problems, they just eat oatmeal. But I take anti-cholestrol medicine. 

Oh, and there are a few useful words here too:

gugur fall off, fall out.  This can be used about hair loss, but it is also the word used for the falling of leaves during Autumn. Sekarang daun gugur. 'Now the leaves are falling.'

jadi- therefore, so (this is one of the meanings of jadi.)

musim season.  In Malaysia there are musim hujan 'rainy season' and musim panas 'dry (hot) season'. In America there are musim sejuk winter,musim bunga 'spring', musim panas summer and musim gugur/luruh  autumn.

We also looked at a few  IKLAN UBAT:

One of them is ubat batuk Cap Ibu dan Anak.

 This advertisement is about a cough medicine of the brand Ibu dan Anak.
 
Cap: brand, mark, seal, stamp or print.
batuk: cough

Ibu means the same thing as Emak. 

We also looked at iklan Panadol ActiFast.
  
Kalau demam, pakai ubat apa? ( If you had a fever, use what medicine?)
 Pakai Panadol ActiFast. (Use Panadol ActiFast.)
 
Kalau sakit kepala, pakai ubat apa?
Panadol ActiFast juga. (Panadol Actifast as well.)

And also, we looked at a toothpaste ad. (Ubat gigi Safi)
 
So when the two words become a compound word - Ubat gigi , it does not mean it's a medicine for the teeth but rather toothpaste
