Topik: Kerjaya

Hello students!

Do you still remember our lesson about career? We learned the word 'KERJAYA' which means career. The word was derived from the root word KERJA which means work. Some of you had asked whether it is related with BEKERJA. Of course it does because BEKERJA means to work/ working. After adding the prefix Ber- , the "r" is dropped for the sake of euphony. Other examples are belajar( from ajar), berenang (from renang). In the case of these verbs, they indicate an action performed by doer to himself. No other party or other person is involved.

We also managed to learn and remember few occupations in Malay. Here are the list of occupations that we learned that day.

Polis - Police
Doktor - Doctor
Jururawat - Nurse
Posmen - Postman
Cikgu/ guru - Teacher
Juruterbang - Pilot
Angkasawan - Astronaut
Hakim - Judge
Chef - Chef
Jurugambar - Photographer

Here are few examples:

1. Scott bekerja sebagai posmen.(Scott works as a postman)
2. Michael Pastor seorang hakim di Amerika. Dia hakim kes Dr.Conrad Murray, doktor Michael Jackson. ( Michael Pastor is a judge in America. He is the judge of Dr. Conrad Murray's case.)

Other than that, we also learned the word 'Tandatangan' which means signature/initial.

Aside from that, we have also learned about Chef Wan, a popular celebrity chef (chef selebriti) in Malaysia.

Remember the news article we read in class?

***Terbaik- Prefix ter-, root word Baik . The prefix functions as a superlative form of an adjective. Thus, terbaik means the best.
